disappear

credit: Inoue Haruka

i’m beginning to disappear,
i thought
          she stopped talking to me
             more out of indifference
             than malice, I’d like
             to hope.
i’m beginning to disappear,
i thought
             she breathed vanilla
             and spoke sweet,
but all the honey in the world
             spoils eventually.
i’m beginning to disappear,
i thought
her gift sits on my dresser
             on the inside, a message
             the last of its kind–
             peaceful demise.
i’m beginning to disappear,
i thought
             i saw you one day
in a crowd full of strangers,
but you were easy to spot
             and so was he.
i’m beginning to disappear,
i thought
             and so is she.
